Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering from a later page?
Yes. Set the first page to number, and the pages before it are left untouched. You can also set the value printed on that first numbered page, so a document continuing from another can start at 12 rather than 1.
Will the number cover up my content?
It might. A PDF has no reserved margin, so the number is drawn on top of whatever is already on the page. The default distance from the edge keeps it clear of most documents, and the tool warns you if you reduce that distance to the point where an overlap becomes likely. Check the result before sending it on.
What happens on pages that are rotated?
The number is placed against the page as a reader sees it, so a landscape or sideways-scanned page gets its number along the bottom edge as displayed, reading the right way up, rather than down one side.
Which font is used?
Helvetica, one of the standard fonts every PDF reader includes. That keeps the file small and means the numbers display correctly everywhere without embedding a font.
Can I remove the numbers afterwards?
Not with this tool. The numbers become part of the page content, so keep your original file if you might need an unnumbered copy.
