What happens to your files

Frequently asked questions
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
No. The files are read and combined entirely inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to Docstools, and the files disappear from memory when you close or reload the page.
In what order are the pages combined?
Top to bottom, in the order the files appear on screen. All of the first file’s pages come first, then all of the second file’s, and so on. Drag a row to a new position, or use the up and down buttons, which also work with a keyboard.
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
No. An encrypted PDF is rejected when you add it, with a message saying so. Docstools does not attempt to remove or work around a password that the document owner set.
Is anything lost when files are merged?
Page content is copied as it is, so text stays selectable and images keep their original quality. Document-level features that belong to the original files, such as form fields, bookmarks and attachments, are not carried across. After merging, the tool re-opens the file it produced and checks that every expected page is present before offering it to you.
How large can the merged file be?
Roughly the sum of the files you combine, since the pages are copied rather than recompressed. Merging very large files uses a lot of memory and can be slow on a phone.
