Frequently asked questions
What resolution should I choose?
For viewing on a screen, 72 to 150 dpi is plenty and keeps the files small. For printing or for reading fine detail, choose 300 dpi. The tool shows the pixel dimensions you will get before you convert, which is usually more meaningful than the dpi figure itself.
Should I pick JPG or PNG?
JPG for scans, photographs and anything with gradients — it produces far smaller files. PNG for pages that are mostly sharp text, line art or diagrams, where it stays crisp, at the cost of a much larger file. WebP is smaller than both but is not accepted everywhere.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Each page is shown as a preview; select the ones you want. You can also type page ranges such as 1-3, 7 in the box above the previews, which is faster for long documents.
Why is a page rendered smaller than the resolution I asked for?
Very large pages at a high resolution can exceed what a browser will allocate, so the tool reduces the density for those pages rather than failing. When that happens, the result says so.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The rendering happens inside your browser tab using a PDF engine loaded into the page. The document is never transmitted to Docstools.
