What happens to your files

Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. This tool reads your images and builds the PDF entirely inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to Docstools, and the files disappear from memory when you close or reload the page. This applies to this tool specifically; tools that need server processing say so on their own pages.
Which image formats can I use?
JPG, PNG and WebP. WebP images are converted to JPEG during the process because PDF has no native WebP support. JPG and PNG images that need no rotation are embedded exactly as they are, without re-encoding, so they keep their original quality.
Why is my photo sideways, and how do I fix it?
Phone cameras often store a photo upright but tag it with a rotation instead of rotating the pixels. Docstools reads that tag and applies it, so most photos come out the right way up. If one still looks wrong, use the rotate button on its thumbnail before creating the PDF.
How large can the PDF get?
The PDF is roughly the sum of your images, so a batch of large photos produces a large PDF. If you need a smaller file, reduce the image quality setting, or compress the images before converting.
Can I change the order of the pages?
Yes. Each image becomes one page, in the order shown on screen. Drag a thumbnail to a new position, or use the move buttons, which also work with a keyboard.
